Kymme shares her story in Tattoo + You, A Photo Story of Body Ink

Kymme shares her story of why she got a tattoo

Kymme shares her story of why she got a tattoo in Tattoo + You, A Photo Story of Body Ink.  In her words:  They say that every tattoo has a story; here’s mine. I never thought I would ever get a tattoo. I thought it would be a hindrance to being a performer playing different roles.  I was diagnosed with oral cancer at the base of the tongue and my whole world turned upside down. This would be devastating to […]

Tattoo Plus You, A Photo Story of Body Ink

Tattoo Plus You, A Photo Story of Body Ink is a photographic project that explores tattoos and why people get them. I am passionate about photographing people and art, so the chance to photograph two of my favourite inspirations was irresistible. But that’s only the half of it. The other half is that I found a lot of tattoo photography to be overly sensational and despite seeing some great art, I rarely got the story about the person.  Tattoo Plus […]

Vancouver Island Music Fest 2017

Vancouver Island Music Fest 2017 Another successful Vancouver Island Music Fest (VIMF) has come and gone. With its quick passing it seems almost dream-like as in “Did that really happen and it’s over already…again?” Well, it is only a weekend but it did seem to move faster than normal to me. There are a lot of music festivals out there so it’s no small feat for a festival to survive let alone thrive. People only have so much money and […]

Lifestyle Photography is the latest gallery that we are launching to showcase my work in on the shiny new website.  There are 3o plus images in this gallery, so take a few minutes to scroll through the images. You might even find yourself, or someone you know, in there.  You’ll find yogis, skiers, snowboarders, runners, rafters, boxers etc. Over the years I’ve shot many different subjects but when I look back on my work, I see a strong thread of lifestyle […]

Amazing Faces Of Cambodia

Faces are my favourite subjects. Not only is each face fantastically unique, but each person’s face changes constantly making for endless photographic possibilities. Take this man for example. What a great face and from what I could see, he lived in deep poverty, in a country with a tragic history of genocide, war and lingering landmines.  But despite it all, he managed a kind, inviting expression.  And Cambodia is filled with such expressions. A testament to the resilience of the human […]

An Engagement Photo in Sri Lanka

As I wandered through the green expanse of Kandy’s Botanical Garden, I came across this lovely couple out for a shoot with their hired Sri Lankan wedding photographer. Being the interloper that I am (the basic nature of a photographer?), I asked if I could take their picture. They obliged and everyone, including their photographer, seemed happy with the request; their photographer took a picture of me taking a picture of them. My guess is that I am now in […]

Portrait of a Sinhalese Buddhist Monk, Sri Lanka

I took this shot just outside an old temple in central Sri Lanka. (Make sure you click on the blue, “Read More” button and then click on the image to get the full-frame version of the shot.) I love the light in the shade in the tropics at mid-day. Forget about shots in the direct sunlight during the harsh light of a tropical day. It’s just way to intense. The shade is where it’s at. We’ll be starting a travel […]

Portrait, Horn of Africa — Vancouver Island Photographer

Another portrait from the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia. The faces that one finds in the Horn of Africa are stunning. A portrait photographer could spend a lifetime there. Tomorrow, look for a portrait closer to home. Bye for now. Gordon
