World Portrait Photography

A portrait should convey some important aspect about the person immediately that leaves you with the feeling that, I know something beyond just the physical after seeing this image. As a photographer, I’ve had the great fortune to travel widely, and to photography literally thousands of people. For me, it’s so fulfilling to quickly engage someone, get them to relax, to connect with me, and then to take their picture.

One of the recipes for my success with portraits is in making eye contact with my subjects right at the beginning. I want them to know, 1) I’m serious about my work and this is not going to be just a snapshot, and 2) I’m genuinely interested in them as a person. We’re all mirrors to each other. I think everyone wants to be acknowledged and witnessed as if to say, I, too, am special and worthy of attention. I have a story to tell as well.

People are my single greatest inspiration in photography. I’m fascinated by how we change from moment-to-moment and I love to capture those fleeting expressions. It’s my interest in people that has guided my work in this genre.  The creative possibilities are endless with portraiture.
