Tattoo + You, Glenny Davidson — Comox Valley Photographer

Today, I present the sublime Glenny Davidson. Glenny has a number of amazing tattoos, many of them done by her husband, Lawson Metail of Art & Soul Tattoos & Treasures. I was tempted to post one of her larger tattoos, but this portrait captures her grace in a soft, dreamy kind of way. More information on my project Tattoo + You: A Photo Story of Body Ink can be found here. Contact us to get involved. And if you missed the recent […]

Bali Breakwater — Comox Valley Photographer

I took this shot just as the sun was starting to set. As the ocean waves rolled in, large waves would explode upward when they hit the breakwater. These water jets were almost 20 feet high and they would rocket upwards with the sound of a deep whoomf followed by the spray falling onto the breakwater like heavy rain. The moment was extremely dynamic. I hope you catch a sense of the action. Bye for now. Gordon Ross

Puntledge River Paddlefest 2011 – Comox Valley Photographer

Once per year, BC Hydro increases river flows to the Puntledge River for recreational use. On May 28 & 29, it was a whitewater haven for paddlers attending the Puntledge River Paddlefest. You can find the online gallery for the event here. The water conditions were definitely not for the faint of heart. Enjoy. Gordon Ross

Backlighting Photo Tip – Comox Valley Photographer

There are a lot of things to think about in photography, but one of the big ones is lighting. And to narrow it down a little for today’s post, I want to talk about the technique of backlighting. By putting the subject between your camera and the light, a range of possibilities emerge. The technique of backlighting can be used in the field or studio to great effect. In this photo, using the sunlight as the source, the canoe and […]

World Portrait Feature Gallery – Comox Valley Photographer

Check out a new collection of world portraits in the feature gallery. If I had to choose one subject matter to shoot, it would be people. And portraits — whether candid or formal — can be light and fun, or intense and revealing. I chose a random collection of images for the slideshow. The portraits are from all over the world — Argentina, Bali, Burkina Faso, Burma, Mexico and Mongolia. To view the images in slideshow format, click here. I hope you […]
