Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Travel Photos

For a small island, Sri Lanka is a traveller’s dream. It’s loaded with sites, history and culture. It’s safe. And it’s fairly easy to get around by bus, trains and private cars. And many people speak English, making it even more appealing for those who want to travel on their own. Having travelled in India, I was girding myself for travel in Sri Lanka thinking I would be entering a similarly intensely paced culture. But that proved to be a false assumption as I found Sri Lanka a very relaxed and hassle-free travel experience. It was such a pleasant surprise.

Primarily Buddhist with smaller populations of Muslims and Hindus in the north, Sri Lanka has an amazing blend of peoples, traditions and landscapes. From beautiful seaside towns and beaches to the rugged mountains of the interior, there’s plenty of diversity to keep one engaged for months. If you’re a tea drinker, you’ve found your paradise; Sri Lanka’s fine brews are served throughout the island and you can visit and tour the serene plantations in the highlands. In the south you can visit wildlife parks and witness herds of elephants and nearby you can board a boat to encounter the majestic blue whales just off the southern coast. Ancient sites are everywhere, the food is awesome and the people are friendly and inviting. What could be better?

I’d go again in a heartbeat.

Enjoy the images.
