Vancouver Island Music Fest 2017

Vancouver Island Music Fest 2017 Another successful Vancouver Island Music Fest (VIMF) has come and gone. With its quick passing it seems almost dream-like as in “Did that really happen and it’s over already…again?” Well, it is only a weekend but it did seem to move faster than normal to me. There are a lot of music festivals out there so it’s no small feat for a festival to survive let alone thrive. People only have so much money and […]

New Lifestyle Photography Gallery

Lifestyle Photography is the latest gallery that we are launching to showcase my work in on the shiny new website.  There are 3o plus images in this gallery, so take a few minutes to scroll through the images. You might even find yourself, or someone you know, in there.  You’ll find yogis, skiers, snowboarders, runners, rafters, boxers etc. Over the years I’ve shot many different subjects but when I look back on my work, I see a strong thread of lifestyle […]

Amazing Faces Of Cambodia

Faces are my favourite subjects. Not only is each face fantastically unique, but each person’s face changes constantly making for endless photographic possibilities. Take this man for example. What a great face and from what I could see, he lived in deep poverty, in a country with a tragic history of genocide, war and lingering landmines.  But despite it all, he managed a kind, inviting expression.  And Cambodia is filled with such expressions. A testament to the resilience of the human […]

An Engagement Photo in Sri Lanka

As I wandered through the green expanse of Kandy’s Botanical Garden, I came across this lovely couple out for a shoot with their hired Sri Lankan wedding photographer. Being the interloper that I am (the basic nature of a photographer?), I asked if I could take their picture. They obliged and everyone, including their photographer, seemed happy with the request; their photographer took a picture of me taking a picture of them. My guess is that I am now in […]

Portrait of a Sinhalese Buddhist Monk, Sri Lanka

I took this shot just outside an old temple in central Sri Lanka. (Make sure you click on the blue, “Read More” button and then click on the image to get the full-frame version of the shot.) I love the light in the shade in the tropics at mid-day. Forget about shots in the direct sunlight during the harsh light of a tropical day. It’s just way to intense. The shade is where it’s at. We’ll be starting a travel […]

Ethiopian Youth Portrait — Vancouver Island Photographer

I love portraiture in all its forms—candid, formal, studio, in the field… The human face is a wonder of diversity. The world’s population is closing in on 7 billion people and, so far, there don’t seem to be any duplicates. That’s awesome news for a portrait photographer. I took this image in the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia, one of the world’s great cultural storehouses. In the following days, I’ll share more images. Thanks for checking in. Bye for now. […]
