The pipe was rocking with speed, flips and twists as is evident in this shot taken at the Superpipe Invitational Finals at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival. The event that takes place every year at Whistler Blackcomb in BC, Canada. The 10-day festival is billed as the World’s largest snow festival with approximately 250,000 people dropping by over the course of the event. It is also billed as the Canada’s largest free outdoor concert series — this year featuring the LA based Hip Hop Groove band, Ozomatli. Also special, State of the Art was an exhibition of invited artists who showed past work and, for some of the artists on opening night, they did live art. It’s a perfect mix of winter adventure sports, music, art and, of course, parties everywhere. Whistler at its best.

On Forbidden Plateau, Vancouver Island, Pat Kitto does a flip with the Georgia Strait and the islands of Denman and Hornby far below. Pat is one of the top coaches at JumpCamp. You can check out their site at www.jumpcamp.com. I love this shot because only a few shards of snow are visible in the pic making one wonder, just how high is this guy, and what is he about to land on?

The fine art of forward bending
I love the starkness of the shot juxtaposed against the the details of the hands and feets. The bonnet of hair crowns the shot.
